The Historical Tour
focuses the colonial time, the period between the XVI and XVIII centuries. The
tour starts with a visit to Farol da Barra (Barra Lighthouse) and the first
natural port of the village, the Porto da Barra beach. After that, we continue by car through Barra
Hill (Ladeira da Barra), Corredor da Vitória (Victorial Hall), Campo Grande
Square, Sete de Setembro Avenue (Avenida Sete de Setembro), Piety Square (Praça
da Piedade) and Castro Alves Square (Praça Castro Alves). Stop at Municipal Square (Praça Municipal) and enjoy the view to the
All Saints Bay. After
that, we walk through the old town, also called Pelourinho, where buildings and
churches reflects the influences of a late Barroc in Brazil. The São Francisco
Church impresses for its majestic example of barroc-rococo, with sculptures
produced locally by monks from the Benedictine Monastery. We
finish the tour at Ladeira do Pelo (Pelo Hill), were we can visit the slaves
church (Igreja do Rosário dos Pretos) – Headquarter of the Good Death
fraternity (Irmandade Boa Morte), center of the slave resistence in Cachoeira.
